Our Shipping and Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all inbound and outbound freight operations for both B2B (FTL and LTL) and manufacturing logistics. This role plays a critical part in ensuring goods are transported on time and cost-effectively while maintaining strong carrier relationships, managing TMS systems, and collaborating with internal and external partners. The ideal candidate has a strong background in transportation and freight coordination, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. This position reports to the Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Inbound Freight Management: Schedule and coordinate inbound shipments of raw materials to manufacturing and warehouse locations; ensure timely delivery and resolve any issues with suppliers or carriers.
- Outbound Freight Management: Manage outbound shipments to B2B customers, retail partners, and distribution centers; ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with service level expectations.
- Freight Optimization: Identify opportunities for cost savings through route optimization, shipment consolidation, carrier negotiation, and performance tracking.
- Negotiate Rates and service commitments for outsourced Parcel, LTL and Truckload. Lead RFQ/P, and award process.
- Carrier & TMS Oversight: Manage relationships with freight carriers and ensure effective use of the Transportation Management System (TMS) to support shipment planning and execution.
- Logistics Coordination: Collaborate closely with manufacturing, warehouse, supply chain, and sales ops teams to ensure smooth flow of goods through all nodes of the supply chain.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate shipping documentation, ensure compliance with DOT. Maintain and manage the security of products while in transit. Manage customer specific requirements (i.e.: labeling, delivery window, ASN). Maintain historical shipping documentation.
- Issue Resolution: Quickly and effectively resolve freight delays, damage claims, missed pickups/deliveries, and carrier service issues.
- Continuous Improvement: Leverage data to identify and implement process improvements across shipping and transportation operations.
- Performance Metrics: Monitor and report on KPIs related to freight cost, carrier performance, on-time delivery, and service quality.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience managing LTL, FTL, and freight forwarders.
- Familiarity with freight forwarding, international shipping, and customs clearance processes.
- Proficiency in TMS systems and transportation analytics.
- Familiarity with e-commerce and DTC shipping strategies
- Strong understanding of B2B and manufacturing logistics.
- Ability to interpret logistics data and make strategic recommendations.
- Detail-oriented with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and operations.
Salary: $75,000-85,000 annually
