Automated Test Engineer (Contract)

Summary:  Contractors in this role focus on writing automated tests to achieve quality standards for Owlchemy products. 

This is a twelve (12) month contract estimated to commence in Aug/Sept 2025.

The fee for this contract is $2,500 USD/WK

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Owlchemy’s Engineering and QA staff to assess the best targets for test automation to catch regressions before they reach manual testing
  • Develop, modify, and execute software test plans, automated test scripts, and programs for testing
  • Analyze and formulate test standards and procedures
  • Write and maintain documentation for writing, updating, and running automated tests
  • Consult with Owlchemy Engineers to address issues with automated tests and updates needed based on changes to gameplay design.
  • Regularly report status updates to stakeholders, both verbally and in writing

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • An understanding of QA testing theories and methodologies
  • Strong programming skills within the requirements of writing automated tests
  • Highly organized and productive with minimal supervision / guidance
  • Basic familiarity with automated testing for games, ideally with Unity
  • The ability to write clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases
  • Clear and proactive problem-solving abilities
  • Strong technical writing skills across all levels

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance automated testing (ATE, SDET or similar)
  • 3+ years experience in game development

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with GameDriver, WebDriver, or similar automated testing tools / APIs
  • Experience in QA Engineering for Meta Quest, PSVR, PCVR or other virtual reality platforms
  • Appreciation of puns (or at least the ability to groan at them

Physical Requirements:

Contractors must be able to use virtual reality headsets but are not expected to own one.

Contractors must be located within the United States or Canada.
