ESPN is seeking a Social Media Specialist I to work in a role that involves ideating, producing and distributing social content across more than 20 brand accounts and multiple social platforms. The ideal candidate thrives in a team environment and an has a desire to continuously test and learn in an ever-evolving industry. This candidate will report to a Sr. Social Media Specialist or Social Media Manager.

A solid passion and understanding of Soccer is highly preferred, however the incumbent will work across multiple sports verticals.

Responsibilities:
• Performs a wide variety of tasks to shape, create, and distribute content for fans across all ESPN brands on TikTok, Instagram, X, Snap, and Facebook
• Discovers User Generated Content resonates with ESPN Social’s audience and brand
• Follows ESPN Social standards of practice, including an adherence to reporting guidelines
• Supports colleagues in “backreading” content: catching mistakes and optimizing for each platform
• Utilizes social data to inform content decisions to increase engagement
• On occasion and with supervision, the Social Specialist I will co-lead brainstorming and planning social content for lower-tier events (ex: a player reaching a career milestone, HOF induction etc.)
• Recognizes that sports happen on nights and weekends; such shifts will be regular and required

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in social media or a closely related field
• Fundamental content creation skills in social media ideation, copy and video/photo editing
• Sound knowledge that spans the sports landscape, including current athletes, rules, and storylines across multiple leagues.
• Must be comfortable quick-turning content when news and live game action are occurring simultaneously
• Strong understanding of internet culture and the role it plays in sports
• Demonstrated communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated news judgement
• Experience using video editing software (e.g. Final Cut, Premiere)
• Experience using photo editing software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign)
• Reaching young fans (high school and below), women fans and casual, less-avid sports fans is a priority. Knowledge and experience in creating sports content as it intersects with topics like gaming, fashion and pop culture for these audiences is a plus.

Required Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Media or related field
