About This Role
Join State Flower Cannabis and TerrAscend CA, as our Assistant Manager of Cultivation, you will play a key leadership role in a dynamic and rewarding indoor cultivation facility. This hands-on position is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured yet fast-paced environment, where operational excellence, consistency, plant-health, and safety are top priorities. As Assistant Manager, you'll be instrumental in executing the day-to-day cultivation strategy, supporting a high-performing team, and helping to set the tone for a culture rooted in accountability, compliance, and quality.

Environmental Factors:- This position requires working in an environment that has a high amount of plant matter and pollen. Areas of the facility reach high/low temperatures with high humidity levels. Employees may have exposure to conditions such as dust, plant matter, and particles that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin, depending on department job assignments. Employees are required to wear protective gear and have the option to wear eye and ear protection. Certain areas of the facility use harsh chemicals for cleaning such as bleach and can have repetitive movements. Employees should be comfortable and capable of working under all of the above conditions.
Position Summary- The Assistant Cultivation Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring daily cultivation operations run efficiently and in full alignment with the standards, SOPs, and expectations set by the Cultivation Manager. This position acts as an operational enforcer and team leader, maintaining consistency in execution across all cultivation tasks while fostering a culture of accountability, compliance, and plant-health, and safety. The Assistant Manager supports the implementation of cultivation strategies, reinforces best practices, and provides real-time supervision and training while working directly with the cultivation team each day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Reinforce and uphold the cultivation schedule, processes, quality standards, and workflows as defined by the Cultivation Manager.
- Supervise and coordinate daily tasks across all stages of the plant lifecycle, including but not limited to: Moms and clones, veg tasks, defoliation, trellis work, harvest, room sanitizing for resets, and post-harvest activities.
- Perform daily facility inspections and data reports on environmental, irrigation, HVAC, lighting, CO2, or problems of any key equipment throughout the facility.
- Oversee post-harvest activities like drying, buck-down, curing, and proper storage of dried or materials.
- Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and compliance during all plant movements, and maintain accurate waste log entries with the Metrc Supervisor.
- Maintain sterilization/sanitation processes to ensure a clean and safe work environment at all times.
- Operate and train others on cultivation equipment as needed.
- Serve as the daily point of contact for team leads and cultivation staff, offering coaching, real-time feedback, and performance support.
- Drive a culture of quality and efficiency within the team.
- Ensure follow-through and accountability in team tasks and goals.
- Provide coaching and training to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Perform plant scouting for concerns such as diseases and pests, provide clear communication around findings with Cultivation Manager, and if necessary, assist in collaboration to determine a solution-oriented plan forward.
- Collaborate with the Cultivation Manager to write, update, and enforce SOPs.
- Stay informed of Local and State regulations and ensure all cultivation practices remain fully compliant.
- Monitor inventory of cultivation materials and assist with purchase order management.
- This is a manual labor position which requires heavy lifting and often involves repetitive tasks. This position requires work in elevated temperatures and humidity, while wearing PPE.
- The Cultivation Department operates on weekends and holidays, and standard work hours will apply regardless of the day or season. This position may also require occasional overtime, when needing to arrive or leave outside of standard hours of operation.
Minimum Qualifications - Minimum of 3+ years in a leadership role within a commercial cultivation operation, with the ability to train, mentor, and manage teams to achieve production goals.
- Proven ability to take ownership of responsibilities, follow through on commitments, and deliver results with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated track record of maintaining high performance standards, attention to detail, and reliability in daily operations.
- Strong personal integrity and the ability to foster trust within a team environment through ethical conduct and transparent practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to provide clear direction, document activities accurately, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- In-depth understanding of plant health, IPM practices, nutrient management, environmental controls, and processes for large-scale indoor cultivation.
- Proficiency in cultivation software and environmental control systems (e.g., Aroya, OpenSprinkler, MicroCool, Dositron).
- Must be competent using a computer or device, and feel comfortable using work related software programs (e.g., Microsoft365, Outlook, and Teams)
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, plant science, agronomy, or a related field.
- Experience with general equipment mechanics and the ability to assess, troubleshoot, and repair or maintain cultivation equipment, including HVAC systems, low-voltage lighting fixtures, irrigation systems, solenoids, and pumps
- General understanding and experience with the safe and appropriate use of power tools and other hardware for repair or maintenance needs.
- Experience with compliance and regulatory documentation in state-licensed cannabis operations.
- Experience with implementing crop steering strategies with proven results.
- Certification for Integrated Pesticide Management Applications (QAC or PAC).
- Strong background in team development, including conducting training sessions and performance evaluations.
- Demonstrated success collaboration and execution when scaling cultivation operations or improving production efficiencies.
Physical Requirements- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
