An Engineering Technician II job is available with the City of Fort Worth Development Services Water Section (DSWS).  The Development Services Water Section is responsible for reviewing all developer-initiated projects related to water/wastewater improvements.  This includes preliminary planning and pre-development phase through design plan review as well as coordination with the outside development community and internal City departments. We are seeking a highly energetic individual who has a good understanding of water/wastewater design and can operate in a fast pace environment. Someone in this position would evaluate and review plans, plats, permits and supporting documents for proposed developments. While the work is technical in nature, there is a strong focus on customer service, communication and accountability. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in the areas of drafting, project design, review/analysis of projects for conformance of established standards, and/or land surveying.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess an understanding of local government policy and Fort Worth development processes
  • Construction plan review, GIS map reading and interpretation.
  • Previous municipal government experience.
  • Proficient skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience using Accela or other Building Permitting System.
  • Bilingual skills, Spanish/English

The Engineering Technician II job responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for reading engineering plans and profiles, water and sewer maps, water pressure planes, and sewer drainage areas.
  • Perform calculations to evaluate a proposed site for utility service.
  • Interpret city ordinances and policies for new and redevelopment projects.
  • Review plats to make sure it complies with water and sewer installation and policies.
  • Review Board of Adjustment (BOA) and Zoning cases.
  • Attend weekly pre-development (PDC) meetings to provide water and sanitary sewer related information to the development community.
  • Generate will serve letters whenever needed.
  • Analyze and resolve development-related problems in assigned areas; gather data through research; recommend solutions; and monitor implementation.
  • Serve as a liaison to city departments, builders, developers and individual customers
  • Possess effective communication skills to ensure a consistent delivery of quality customer service in support and observance of city state ordinances.
  • Provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to managerial staff.

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing and balancing.

Physical Demands

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
