The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance (SPAC)is currently seeking anAccountant I. Under direct supervision, the Accountant I will perform a variety of routine communication which require the application of accounting theory and practices. /Remote Position This position works a remote schedule. Primary Duties: * Reviews award documentation to identify key data elements, award terms and conditions and invoicing and reporting requirements. * Inputs and ensures information is reflected accurately in the financial system. * Under direction of Manager, identify sponsored projects that require initial reports of expenditures. * Completes initial report of expenditures in compliance with the terms and conditions stated in award documents and ensure deadlines are met. Send these reports to the departments for approval. * Reviews award documentation to update in the financial system project dates, principal investigators, cost share, no cost extensions and bill to site maintenance. * Reviews award documentation and departmental requests for budget reallocation and carryforward requests. * Backup the coordination of clerical work for a department. Plans workflow of assigned clerical tasks or function. * Making outbound communication with departments and outside clients in a professional manner while keeping and improving customer relations. * Applying good customer service in a timely manner. * Reviews and monitors assigned accounts. * Compiles data and prepares monthly activity reports for management. * Uses computer terminal to access database for obtaining account status or entering data on assigned accounts; verifies accuracy before and after entry. * Provides assistance to staff as needed and directed. * Assists with the preparation of ad hoc reports utilizing manual methods and/or computer software. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Education:Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of nine (9) credits in accounting. OTHER:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Working knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers, and financial software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation.
