Internships @ Wealthsimple

At Wealthsimple, we offer 4 to 8-month internships that are open to co-op and non-co-op students, and recent grads. During your internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that are changing the landscape of financial services for Canadians. You will be on a team that supports your growth, provides mentorship, and connects you to the broader Wealthsimple community!

Our internship program follows a hybrid work model, where you’ll be working from our Toronto headquarters on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This structure offers the flexibility of remote work, while also providing the collaboration, connection, and mentorship that come from being together in person.

Eligibility

✔ Currently enrolled as a student at a Canadian post-secondary institution or technical bootcamp

✔ New graduates - Within 6 months of your graduation date

✔ Available to work full-time hours

✔ Residing in Canada

✔ Able to commute to our Toronto HQ on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Engineering @ Wealthsimple

Wealthsimple has several engineering teams ranging from product-focused to back-office and our teams build and manage the software that powers our services. We do this using microservice architecture and an agile approach, focused on short iterations and rigorous automated testing, deploying our code over 100 times a day. We maximize our productivity by building high-performing teams and giving them autonomy to deliver results, working very closely with product management, design and operations to make sure that our work delivers maximum benefit for our clients.

Product Engineering at Wealthsimple drives the development of our core offerings across Investing, Banking, Tiers, and Marketing. This team builds intuitive and impactful features that empower millions to achieve their financial goals within these key areas. Collaborating closely with design and product, they bring innovative ideas to life, directly impacting our users' financial well-being. Platform Engineering at Wealthsimple empowers developers by providing the platforms, tools, and infrastructure needed to build and maintain fast, reliable, secure, and scalable systems. This domain includes teams focused on Brokerage Execution, Data Delivery, Data Platform, Design System, and ML Platform. They focus on developer enablement, operational excellence, and performance at scale, ultimately aiming to create a delightful client experience. The team adheres to a "platform-as-a-product" mindset, continuously improving its services based on user feedback and business impact. The Financial Operating System (FOS) domain offers the fundamental financial building blocks necessary to develop our financial products. Our teams, including Book of Record, and Identity Trust empower our customers with a robust financial platform that delivers real-time insights, ensures impeccable data integrity, and creates trust-building experiences. FOS manages core financial operations, focusing on building a real-time ledger for improved scalability and enabling product teams to innovate. • We have a microservice architecture with over 100+ services in production
• Roughly half of these services are Ruby on Rails, with the other half being Java/KotlinOur frontend application is a mix of React/Angular
• We host our services on AWS and use things like RDS, Aurora, SQS, SNS, S3, Kafka, etc.
• We follow best practices and have great tools for profiling, logging, tracing, tracking and experimenting

• If you are selected for next steps you will hear back at the end of May and early June
• First Interview: 1-hour technical interview (in your language of choice) with one-two interviewers
• Second Interview: 30 minute interview with a hiring manager where you will be walking through a project review
