Director of Underwriting

Job Summary

A company is looking for a Director of Underwriting to lead and manage the group underwriting function while contributing to hands-on underwriting tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of group underwriters while personally underwriting large and complex cases
• Establish and maintain underwriting guidelines, policies, and processes to balance competitiveness, risk, and profitability
• Collaborate with Sales and other departments to support new business growth and monitor underwriting performance

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in group underwriting within health insurance or healthcare-related financial services
• Proven ability to lead a team while directly underwriting complex cases
• Deep knowledge of group underwriting methodologies and healthcare cost drivers
• Bachelor's degree
• Familiarity with reinsurance markets and strategies preferred
