About the position
When you join Verizon, you become part of one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect around the globe. As a Lead member of the Network Planning Technology Standards team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Core & Terminals network design from a Standards perspective. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that 4G, 5G, and Next Gen network Standards are defined and meet the necessary feature requirements and performance objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of technology analysis and the ability to drive Verizon’s priorities, strategic interests, and objectives. You will be tasked with analyzing and designing CT architecture layers, including protocols, APIs, policy, and interworking, to optimize networks for innovative applications. The 5G system and future networks will demand ultra-low latency, massive MTC connections, and high throughput performance to enhance customer experience. Therefore, developing relationships with external parties and influencing direction in industry bodies will be essential. As a 3GPP domain expert, you will serve as an influential delegate in key workgroups, supporting cross-workgroup coordination with other delegates and SMEs to represent Verizon’s interests at the Plenary TSGs. Your specific responsibilities will include evaluating and authoring 3GPP technical contributions, driving Verizon’s positions, and aligning with operators and vendors. You will collaborate with diverse minds on a global scale, interacting with global partners and competitors in a supplier-led environment while navigating geopolitical influences and competitive strategies. Additionally, you will support the development of a 3+ year technology strategic view on Core/RAN, including Network Slicing, Voice, Mission Critical Services, IoT, V2X, MEC, AI, and strategic vertical enablement (Drones/UAV/Satellite), data, and video. This position requires excellent working relationships with various teams, including Network Planning, Device Technology, Network Operations, Data Performance, System Performance, and Engineering and Operations. You will also serve as a mentor to other delegates and SMEs, enhancing their technical competency and knowledge of the Standards process. Managing complex technical projects independently, you will lead industry standard meetings and forums while assessing start-up companies and incumbent solutions. Your knowledge of influencing Standards Bodies and Industry Fora will be critical in driving the creation of the necessary ecosystem structure for the work to be done, essentially acting as a “market maker” from a standards perspective.
