Job Description

The New York City Law Department is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Chief of the Commercial and Real Estate Litigation Division. This division represents the City and City-funded public entities in litigation relating to public contracts and real estate issues before state and federal courts and administrative tribunals. The two Deputy Chiefs assist the Chief in the management, administration and oversight of the work of the approximately 40 attorneys and 15 professional support staff of the Division. In addition, the Chief and Deputy Chiefs also advise Mayoral agencies on commercial, municipal procurement and real estate matters. The Deputy Chief will coordinate support professionals' role in assisting with the Division's cases. The Deputy Chief will also be responsible for coordinating training of Division attorneys and support professionals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have experience litigating and providing counseling in the areas of construction, contract, procurement, real estate and/or other commercial matters, together with a history of successful supervision and management of attorneys and legal support professionals, excellent oral and written communication skills and good inter-personal skills.
