Medical Records Coder II – Home Health Care – Remote Must Reside in North Carolina

About the position

Responsibilities
• Review complex medical records and accurately code primary/secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding conventions.
• Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to coding guidelines, ensuring accurate DRG/APC assignment.
• Abstract and compile data from medical records for optimal reimbursement for Home Health or Hospice services.
• Consult with and educate physicians on coding practices and conventions to provide detailed coding information.
• Communicate with nursing and ancillary services personnel for needed documentation for accurate coding.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes through continuing education.
• Assist with special projects as required.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

Requirements
• High School Diploma required.
• Must hold one of the following active/current certifications: Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or CCS certification.
• Prior experience in homecare and hospice coding strongly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM & CPT-4 coding conventions.
• Familiarity with coding software and effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of DRG/APC reimbursement processes.
• Experience with HH PDGM Knowledge R/T Coding.
