About the position
Responsibilities
• Continuously observes activity and behavior of multiple patients at a monitor station utilizing Virtual Sitter software to ensure a safe patient environment.
• Verbally redirects patients over a digital 2-way audio device that is in the patient room and immediately summons nursing staff if assistance is required.
• Identifies potential patient safety risks/concerns and communicates them to the RN.
• Participates in hand-off of pertinent patient information/behavior at shift change and arranges meal breaks and other relief times to ensure constant patient observation.
• Provides patients with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
• Seeks assistance when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others and participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
• Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from patient rooms and reports findings to RN in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working in a hospital preferred.
• Certified with Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
