This position enhances educational development through program design, applied research initiatives, and consultative services in support of excellence in teaching and learning across the university. The Teaching Development Program Manager takes a lead role in designing, delivering, and assessing activities and programs that support faculty and graduate students in developing skills and competencies in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The position contributes to program evaluation at the department and university level in support of improving teaching and learning outcomes. Additionally, the Teaching Development Program Manager contributes to developing and executing initiatives to expand STLI’s scholarship of teaching and learning profile through action research. The Teaching Development Program Manager supports faculty success programs in the Provost’s office, collaborates effectively with STLI team members, and reports to STLI leadership. These efforts are grounded in current knowledge and best instructional practices across learning modalities, specifically as it relates to higher education teaching and learning. Primary areas of responsibility include: – Collaborating as a productive member of the STLI team on multiple synchronous projects. – Creating resources and providing faculty development opportunities focused on curriculum, instruction, and assessment in the classroom and across W&M. – Contributing to programs and initiatives to train and prepare future faculty (graduate students, post-docs, etc.) for careers that leverage teaching. – Leading and administering STLI’s grant programs for faculty and staff to support innovation in teaching and learning at W&M. – Conducting basic and applied research to better understand teaching and learning in higher education. – Collaborating on assessment of STLI’s programs and activities to drive program development and improvement. – Contributing expertise through STLI’s consultative services with faculty and co-educators. – Participating in faculty development opportunities more broadly to support key initiatives within STLI and W&M. Job Description: Required Qualifications: Graduate degree in instructional or learning design, assessment, adult learning, program evaluation, or other related foci combined with experience in a similar or related role. Experience in educational development or related work. Experience in assessment and/or learning analytics. Experience working effectively with faculty, students, and staff members in a higher education context. Experience in designing and leading workshops, seminars, pilot programs, etc. Excellent teamwork skills and a demonstrated ability to advance multiple projects at any given time. Excellent communication, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills. Ability to design and conduct applied research, including evaluation and various forms of research to inform practice. Thorough knowledge of teaching and learning theory. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching in higher education. Demonstrated success in project management. Experience in accessibility and/or inclusive teaching strategies. Experience in educational technology and/or teaching across learning modalities. Published contributions related to teaching & learning. Experience in personnel supervision. Experience in overseeing/leading students. Job Duties: 60% – Teaching Development Program Management: Provide coordination, management, and leadership in designing and delivering professional learning opportunities on curriculum, instruction, and assessment at William & Mary. Relevant activities or programs include, for example, creating teaching resources, providing consultations and class visits, delivering workshops in teaching, assessment and other topics, and working with individual instructors, graduate students, and postdocs across William & Mary to support their instructional excellence and teaching efforts. Collaborate in the development of instructional assets such as short courses. 20% – Applied Research & Development: In coordination with the Provost’s Office and STLI Leadership, identify key areas for basic and applied research on teaching and learning. Lead or coordinate research teams to conceptualize, design, implement, and report findings on areas of teaching and learning topics. Manage and administer the STLI grant program to promote innovative teaching and research at William & Mary to support student learning and teaching excellence. In collaboration with STLI leadership, prepare data, analysis, and written reports for academic leaders as needed. Prepare publications for external audiences. Other related duties as assigned. 20% – Professional Learning & Development: Maintain currency in field of expertise, through independent study, conferences, workshops, or other activities as appropriate. Use professional development to recommend and lead the implementation of industry best practices and solutions as may be most appropriate for William & Mary. Contribute to efforts to publicize the unit’s work in the field. Collaborate and communicate with the STLI team areas of professional development and learning. Other related duties as assigned. Hiring Range: up to $74,000 commensurate with experience Additional Job Description: Applies knowledge of adult training and development, program management, curriculum development, evaluation methodology, needs assessment and analysis. Applies knowledge of management principles, practices and budget development and administration. Plans develops and directs training programs and organizational development initiatives through contact with the public, students, schools, faculty, other local/state agencies, private entities, media, donors, volunteers and vendors.
