The Opportunity

Project Goal: To establish robust and integrated data-driven analysis frameworks that leverage multimodal data (molecular, cellular, clinical, and imaging) in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) to enhance decision-making across the research and development pipeline with a focus on target discovery, target prioritization, biomarker discovery, and biomarker development.

The candidate will be responsible for the development and application of a computational framework for the integration and analysis of multimodal data as well as critical assessment and biological interpretation of results to support informed decision-making throughout the IBD R&D process. This computational framework consists of a suite of interoperable analysis pipelines that leverages clinical IBD data (eg single cell and spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, histology and endoscopy videos) as well as existing and new analysis, AI/ML tools and foundation models (spatial, molecular and sequence-to-function).

The specific tasks include:

● Utilization of existing computational analyses to develop a generalized procedure for summarizing molecular, cellular and clinical information on each target.

● This computational framework would be used to review the targets in the early and late research pipeline. During and following the development of new target discovery tools, the candidate will be responsible for incorporating the new analyses in a unified computational infrastructure, maintaining it, and applying it on future target candidates.

● Implementation of a computational framework for using multimodal IBD data for target and biomarker discovery.

● This task focuses on implementing a strategy to identify new targets and biomarkers by integrating diverse IBD datasets (molecular, cellular, clinical, imaging). The candidate will apply computational methods for multimodal data integration, including existing tools and foundation models, and critically interpret the results within the context of IBD pathobiology. A key deliverable is the translation of these data-driven findings into actionable recommendations for target and biomarker discovery efforts.

Who You Are

● PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related field with 3-5 years of experience. Post-doctoral or industry experience is preferred.

● The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in immunology and computational biology, with in-depth knowledge of IBD pathogenesis, relevant immune pathways, and current therapeutic landscape.

● They should have demonstrated experience in applying AI/ML methods to analyze complex biological datasets, particularly multimodal omics and clinical data.

● Experience with using and fine-tuning foundation models is desired.

● Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required to effectively interact with AI scientists, computational biologists, experimental scientists, and clinicians, including the ability to present complex computational findings, assess their limitations and formulate follow-up hypotheses.

● Expertise in immunology is required; expertise in IBD preferred.
